This presentation provides a brief introduction to the emergence of Malaysian English and its attendant literature Malaysian Literature in English. This young literary tradition is similar to many new literary traditions that have developed with the emergence and development of new Englishes. In multi-ethnic and multi-linguistic Malaysia, writing in English has become vibrant over the last few decades. Writers from various ethnic groups write in the English language. The focus of this presentation is the work of Malaysian Indian writers, their place in the Malaysian post-colonial literary landscape, the preoccupations in their writing and the recognition they have garnered over the last seven decades.
