Practices and Issues in English Language Teacher Development covers the current practices and issues that concern English language teachers and their development as professionals. These practices entail issues that are very much pertinent to the fundamental elements of teacher development such as communities of practices, assessment for training interventions, in-service training (INSET) programmes, the meaning of becoming an English language teacher, policies related to teacher development and teacher identity. Local and international academics featured in this book examine, argue and suggest new ways, new practices, in the process of enhancing one’s professionalism. This is done by approaching various issues that may hinder teachers’ development using strategies such as use of films in classroom, creating an online platform to discover self, scrutinizing less meaningful INSET programmes, and building a community of learning teachers. All these strategies have immense potential in enhancing one’s development as a professional English language teacher and are dealt with in this book.
